Clinician-led
Founded by a retina clinician who understands the patient visit, the imaging workflow, referral decisions, and the importance of practical tools that fit real clinics.

SpectOcular was created to make retinal imaging a practical bridge between eye care, systemic-health research, and future data-driven diagnostics.
SpectOcular grew from a simple observation: too many patients face barriers to timely, specialized care. Growing up in rural Maryville, Missouri, and later caring for patients across rural East Texas and North Texas, Dr. Sai Chavala saw how limited resources, distance, cost, and delayed access can affect health outcomes.
As a retina surgeon, physician-scientist, practice owner, and serial entrepreneur, he saw a practical opportunity: bring advanced retinal imaging closer to where patients already receive eye care, connect those images to longitudinal health information, and build a clinician-led platform that can support better screening, research, and future systemic-health insights.

Founded by a retina clinician who understands the patient visit, the imaging workflow, referral decisions, and the importance of practical tools that fit real clinics.
Designed to extend high-quality retinal imaging and retina-led support beyond traditional specialty-care settings.
Built to connect retinal imaging with longitudinal health data in a responsible, consent-enabled, IRB-aligned workflow.
Dr. Chavala is a board-certified, fellowship-trained retina surgeon with more than 20 years of experience. His training includes ophthalmology residency at Cleveland Clinic Cole Eye Institute, retina and vitreous fellowship at Duke University, and stem cell/regenerative medicine fellowship through HHMI/Weill Cornell. He is a professor at TCU School of Medicine and has contributed to clinical optogenetics, regenerative medicine, and retina research.
He is also a successful serial entrepreneur. His prior company, CiRC Therapeutics, was acquired by Paragon Biosciences, demonstrating founder experience across clinical insight, translational science, company formation, and strategic exit execution.
SpectOcular is led by a retina specialist who understands patient care, imaging interpretation, referral decisions, and the operational realities of eye-care clinics.
Prior founder experience includes the successful acquisition of CiRC Therapeutics by Paragon Biosciences, supporting investor confidence in execution and company-building discipline.
The platform is built around a practical goal: make advanced retinal imaging, data linkage, and future systemic-health insights more accessible to patients and clinicians.
